A routine arrest erupted in gunfire in Turner on Friday evening when a suspect allegedly drew a weapon on county sheriff’s deputy who then shot him twice – non-fatally.

According to a statement by the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office, Deputy Kurt Fegan spotted Christopher Lebrun on Plains Road at 10:15 p.m. on October 10 and signaled for him to pull over. Lebrun was wanted on an outstanding warrant.

Instead of pulling over, Lebrun allegedly fled the deputy leading to a chase that ended when his vehicle struck a tree. Upon exiting the vehicle, Lebrun brandished a firearm and pointed it at Fegan, the statement says. The deputy then shot the suspect twice.

Lebrun was transported to the Maine Medical Center, where he is currently being treated for his injuries. Deputy Fegan also injured his knee in the incident and was treated and released at Central Maine Medical Center.

Following standard procedure, Fegan has been placed on administrative leave while the Maine Attorney General’s office investigates the shooting.
