The rock legend who helped found KISS and electrified audiences for decades with his lead-guitar magic made a big splash in Maine nearly 30 years ago.
Ace Frehley, who died last week, spoke about his iconic rock groupโs Portland concert in 1998 to mid-Maine music writer Lucky Clark.
โFor two hours we give the kids the best show theyโve ever seen,โ Frehley said at the time. โIt allows me to let go and just be the โSpace-Aceโ again.โ
Frehley also soloed in Portland earlier this year in a concert promoted by AuraMaine.com.
โThe only thing more recognizable than Ace Frehleyโs signature โSpacemanโ makeup is his guitar playing,โ Aura said in February. โThose thundering riffs and singable solos have enshrined him as one of the most influential, inspiring, and impactful musicians of all-time.”
โSimply put, rock โnโ roll and heavy metal wouldnโt sound, look, or feel the same without Frehley,โ Aura says. โAmong hundreds of accolades, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fameยฎ inducted him in 2014 as a co-founder and the original lead guitarist of Kiss.โ
Guitar World named him in the Top 15 of its โ100 Greatest Heavy Metal Guitarists of All Timeโ and plugged the lead from โShock Meโ on the โ50 Greatest Guitar Solos of All Time.โ
