The Maine State Police are investigating a crash that occurred in Pittsfield on Monday, leaving one driver dead.

At around 5:55 a.m., police responded to a single-vehicle crash in Pittsfield on I-95 northbound near mile marker 143.

When troopers arrived, they discovered that a 2012 Subaru Impreza had traveled off the road into the median, where it was lodged in the trees.

Police were forced to extricate the driver, Rae Hartford, 56, of Scarborough, from the vehicle, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

During the police response, one lane of I-95 was shut down for approximately two hours.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police are requesting that anyone with information come forward. However, a preliminary investigation reportedly indicated that speed and probable impairment were factors in the crash.
