Houlton Town Council Fires Manager Cameron Clark Following Months of Turmoil

HOULTON, Maine — After months of controversy and public frustration, the Houlton Town Council voted Monday night to fire Town Manager Cameron Clark, ending his brief and troubled tenure, according to a council member.

Clark was arrested in September on charges of domestic violence assault and tampering with a witness. Despite the arrest, the council initially allowed him to remain in the position, a move that sparked criticism from residents who questioned the town’s handling of the matter. In early October, the council reversed course and placed Clark on administrative leave while reviewing its options.

On Monday, councilors voted to terminate Clark’s contract effective immediately. Under the terms of that contract, the town must provide Clark with three months of severance pay, the council member said.

Clark, who became town manager in April, had been hired to bring stability to town operations. Instead, his time in office was marked by the unfolding criminal case and weeks of debate inside town hall that ultimately led to his dismissal.
