‘Medical Emergency’ On Midcoast Island Ferry Stops Boat, Ends In Violent Arrest

The captain of a Vinalhaven-bound ferry had just left the Rockland dock when his crewmen suddenly told him he needed to turn the huge vessel around.

The ferry, which had headed out on the early-morning run just after the sun came up, did a U-turn and headed back to Rockland.

The sudden switch in directions was triggered by a passenger apparently having a medical crisis.

Rockland cops and EMS sped to the dock to meet the boat at 7 a.m. Tuesday.

That’s where they say they found a passenger identified to them as Dana Wentworth.

Whether Wentworth, 34, of Vinalhaven was really in medical crisis or not is still murky.

But what cops found turned the call into a violent arrest when they realized their “patient” was out on bail from previous drug cases.

When they went to search him and his belongings Wentworth allegedly grabbed some of their equipment, Rockland Police said in a press release.

They found him with cocaine and fentanyl.

Wentworth was charged with refusing to submit to arrest or detention, felony trafficking of scheduled drugs, possession of scheduled drugs and violation of conditions of release.

Thanks to Wentworth, the mail got to Vinalhaven a little late yesterday.
