The Maine Department of Labor (MDOL) announced on Wednesday a number of Subway sandwich shop locations throughout the state will be closing following the revocation of their business registrations.

Now, the MDOL is attempting to get in contact with any workers that have been laid off as a result of the closures.

“The department is here to assist these workers through this period of uncertainty,” Maine Labor Commissioner Laura Fortman said in a statement. “We have resources to assist them with both their immediate needs and long-term goals, and want to make their next steps as simple as possible during this stressful time.”

According to WGME, at least seven locations owned by MTF Subs were forced to close their doors this week.

The closures are said to impact locations in Topsham, Portland, Brunswick, Lisbon Falls, Hampden, Westbrook, and Wiscasset.

The New England director of operations for MTF Subs said, as reported by WGME, that he believes the situation is “temporary” and said that they are working on resolving it.

Those looking to apply for unemployment insurance may do so online, over the phone at 1-800-593-7660 between 8AM and 3PM Monday through Friday, or in person at career centers with locations in Augusta, Bangor, Portland, Lewiston and Presque Isle on Thursdays between 9AM and 3PM.
