Police are searching for the driver of a silver SUV who struck a pedestrian in a marked crosswalk Sunday evening and then fled the scene.

According to police, a 25-year-old pedestrian was hit near 654 Riverside Street around 6:50 p.m. Witnesses told officers the pedestrian was legally crossing the street when the vehicle struck them. The SUV reportedly stopped briefly before driving off toward Forest Avenue.

The victim was transported to Maine Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said the vehicle involved is believed to be an older-model silver Honda CR-V.

The Portland Police Department is asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to call (207) 874-8575. Tips may also be submitted by texting the keyword PPDME and a message to 847411.
