North Berwick Police Chief Stephen Peasley confirmed the crash in an interview with WMTW and provided them with a timeline of the events.

At approximately 2:30-2:45 p.m. on Thursday, police received a call reporting a collision between a vehicle and a train on the town’s Elm Street, near the intersection with Buffum Road.

Police arrived to discover a crash between a pickup truck and an Amtrak train.

The driver was alone in the truck at the time and was pronounced dead at the scene.

He told them that the police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.

The train stopped about half a mile down the tracks. Amtrak told WMTW that the train, Downeaster Train 686, remained stopped until approximately 5:20 p.m., when it resumed operations.

Parts of Elm Street were temporarily shut down, but they have since been reopened.

According to WGME, the driver of the pickup truck was a high school student at Noble High School, though they stated that the school is declining to release the victim’s name.
