The Somerset Sheriff’s Department executed a drug bust in Pittsfield on Wednesday, seizing over a pound of fentanyl and cocaine and arresting two alleged drug traffickers from out of state.

At approximately 1:50 p.m., Somerset deputies executed a search warrant at the home of Julie McDaniel, 69, on Sibley Pond Road in Pittsfield.

The department obtained the search warrant after a months-long investigation into drugs allegedly being sold from the home.

During the search, law enforcement allegedly located 780 grams of fentanyl and cocaine, along with a loaded 12-gauge shotgun. The seized drugs have an estimated street value of $78,000.

They also reportedly discovered documentation related to drug trafficking activities, drug paraphernalia, digital scales, and $4,084 in cash.

While executing the warrant, deputies arrested two suspects: Hector Marrero, 34, of New Jersey, and Kelvin Staton, 35, of New York.

Marrero faces two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and is subject to federal probation due to prior New York drug convictions. The drug charges were elevated because of his past felony convictions, the quantity of drugs seized, and the proximity of the loaded shotgun.

Staton faces two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs. The charges were aggravated due to prior felony drug convictions, the presence of a shotgun, and the proximity of the seized drugs.

He was previously arrested in February 2018 by the Somerset Sheriff’s Department in connection with drug trafficking following the execution of a search warrant in Fairfield.

Both men were issued $100,000 bail and are set to appear in court on May 6.

The Sheriff’s Department also issued two counts of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs against McDaniel, the owner of the property searched, although she was not arrested. She is set to appear in court alongside Staton and Marrero.

The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed.

The execution of the search warrant involved six detectives from the Sheriff’s Department Criminal Division, four patrol deputies, an officer from the Pittsfield Police Department, and an agent from the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA).
