At approximately 1:11 a.m. on Thursday, deputies responded to reports of suspicious activity on Canaan’s Shady Lane.
Deputies Bowman and Jones responded to the scene and discovered a Nissan Altima parked off the road with three males inside.
Law enforcement identified the three as a 17-year-old, Joel Sweetser, 36, homeless from the Bangor area, and Austin Wing, 29, who recently moved from South Carolina to Maine.
While deputies spoke with the occupants, one of them reportedly noticed an open alcoholic beverage container between the legs of Sweetser.
Sweetster was arrested just one month ago, in January, on charges of operating under the influence in Penobscot County and was given bail conditions that allowed law enforcement to search his vehicle and person.
Deputies conducted a search and allegedly discovered 24.6 grams of methamphetamine in Sweetser’s vehicle.
He was not found with any drugs on his person, but police reportedly found 34 grams of methamphetamine on the juvenile’s person and other unspecified illegal drugs in Wing’s possession.
Deputies arrested Sweetser on charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs and violation of conditions of release. He was transported to the Somerset County Jail, where he is being held without bail awaiting a court appearance on May 6.
The juvenile was released to his guardian after a meeting with a juvenile community corrections officer and was issued a summons for a charge of possession of scheduled drugs.
Deputies allowed Wing to go with a summons for possession of scheduled drugs.
Additional charges may be issued after the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office reviews the case.
