A Brunswick man is facing murder charges after making statements to police that led to the discovery of a body in a Brunswick home on Friday.

At approximately 6:30 p.m., the Bath Police Department responded to reports of a disturbance and spoke with one of the parties involved, identified as Tanner Dostie, 45, of Brunswick.

While speaking to police, Dostie allegedly made comments that led officers to become suspicious and prompted them to mount a further investigation.

During that investigation, officers executed a search warrant at a Brunswick residence and allegedly discovered the body of a deceased adult male.

The body was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta for a positive identification and to determine the cause and manner of death.

After the body was found, law enforcement arrested Dostie on a charge of murder and transported him to the Cumberland County Jail.

Police have released few details on the investigation, and it is unclear whether the Brunswick home belonged to the suspect or whether the disturbance in Bath was related to the alleged murder.

The Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit is continuing to investigate with assistance from the Bath and Brunswick Police Departments, the Sagadahoc Sheriff’s Department, and the Office of the State Fire Marshal.

Police have not released the name of the victim.

Dostie’s Facebook page identifies him as a pipe fitter at Bath Iron Works.

Update: After the publication of this article, Bath Iron Works reached out, clarifying that Dostie has not worked there for several years.

Someone below said “there goes another Dem voter.” Not sure of exact intent there, but nothing will cause them to lose their ability to vote. Not even death.
