Police Recover Vehicle Stolen from Clinton Variety Store After Thief Crashed Into a Pond

The Clinton Police Department recovered a stolen vehicle on Monday after the suspect reportedly drove it into a pond and fled the scene.

On Sunday, police issued a press release reporting that a vehicle had been stolen from Clinton Variety on Maine Street at approximately 2:30 p.m. and included an image of the vehicle from the store’s security cameras.

On Monday, they announced that the vehicle had been recovered and provided additional details on the incident.

A Clinton officer spotted the vehicle traveling on Route 23 on Monday morning.

The driver reportedly realized that the officer was present and drove off at high speed, prompting the officer to initiate a pursuit.

The officer terminated the pursuit after crossing railroad tracks in Hinckley and losing sight of the vehicle.

The suspect reportedly drove into a driveway and behind a residence, where he got the vehicle stuck in a pond.

The suspect then reportedly got a ride from a neighbor. Police have not specified whether the suspect has been identified, but the investigation remains ongoing.

Officers are checking back with the neighbor to determine whether she knows the suspect.

The stolen vehicle has been returned to its owner.

Have you seen the price of a used car in Maine ? With everything so far away, and no public transportation it’s bound to start happening more often…..and those inspection stickers…..errrrghh….don’t get me started !
