A Somali national wanted for passport fraud and fingerprints linked to a piracy incident in 2012 was arrested by U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers near the northern border, announced in a Department of Homeland Security statement on Friday.
Said Jama Ahmed – an illegal migrant from Somalia – faced an outstanding federal warrant for forging passport documents with fingerprints matching logged evidence by the U.S. Navy in a 2012 boarding operation of a hijacked Indian vessel by armed pirates in the Gulf of Aden.
Ahmed was arrested the evening of April 14, 2026, when an off-duty Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer identified the subject as walking with a backpack several miles north of the U.S. – Canada border. He was taken into custody approximately two hours later and is now being held in the District of North Dakota on charges for illegal entry.

โWeak Biden Administration border policies allowed this illegal alien to enter and remain in the country despite his multiple law enforcement encounters,โ said Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis in statements.
She reinforced her statements further saying, โWe are thankful for our hardworking U.S. CBP officers and Canadian officials for their cooperation in arresting this individual. DHS will continue to work to arrest criminal illegal aliens to protect the American homeland from all threats.โ

Ahmed first entered the United States illegally in September 2022 well south near San Luis, Arizona. Immigration and Customs Enforcement detained him in 2024 during a warrant search related to fraudulent documentation before officials issued a full extradition warrant on April 24, 2025. He somehow remained in the continental United States accumulating a criminal record, but somehow evading through weak border policy enabled prior by widespread refugee resettlement.

The latest case highlights patterns where national security threats enter the United States completely undetected, repeatedly documented in federal enforcement actions, commonly in states bordering Canada. The DHS did not disclose any further information on foreign national’s removal proceedings or criminal background.
It is encouraged Maine residents report suspected illegal activity of suspicious behavior directly to ICE at 866-DHS-2-ICE or by submitting an online tip.
