Law enforcement arrested a Benton man on Tuesday after he allegedly fled while driving a stolen vehicle and while wanted on five outstanding arrest warrants.

At approximately 8:21 a.m., the Fairfield Police received a request from the Oakland Police Department to search the area of Mill Street in Fairfield for a stolen black 2022 GMC Sierra.
Officers spotted the vehicle, but, as they arrived, the driver allegedly fled while operating erattically.
Police attempted a a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT maneuver), but it failed to stop the suspect.
The pursuit continued into Waterville and then southbound on the interstate.
The suspect vehicle eventually crossed the median and allegedly began driving the wrong way before eventually turning around.
Officers temporarily lost sight of the vehicle but located it a short time later in a park in Clinton.
Witnesses told police that the driver had entered a Canaan Road residence before fleeing on foot out of the building’s back door.
An officer from the Pittsfield Police Department and a detective from the Somerset Sheriff’s Department then located the suspect and took him into custody.
The suspect was identified as Christopher Groves, 30, of Benton, and was found to be wanted on five outstanding arrest warrants.
In addition to the charges related to his warrants, Groves faces charges of eluding an officer, aggravated criminal mischief, reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, failing to stop for a police officer, driving to endanger, criminal speed, and violating conditions of release.
He was transported to the Somerset County Jail.
Benton was previously convicted on domestic violence charges.
