The tough-talking drawling multi-millionaire who made environment a household world and created TV’s first liberal cable sanctuary has died.
But for all his high-powered exploits Ted Turner will be also remembered as the one-time husband of actress Jane Fonda, aka “Hanoi Jane” for her anti-Americanism disguised by the legacy media as nothing more than antiwar.
“Ted Turner, the media maverick and philanthropist who founded CNN, a pioneering 24-hour network that revolutionized television news, died peacefully Wednesday, surrounded by his family,” according to a news release from Turner Enterprises.
“The Ohio-born Atlanta businessman, nicknamed “The Mouth of the South” for his outspoken nature, built a media empire that encompassed cable’s first superstation and popular channels for movies and cartoons, plus professional sports teams like the Atlanta Braves,” CNN reported.
“Turner was also an internationally known yachtsman; a philanthropist who founded the United Nations Foundation; an activist who sought the worldwide elimination of nuclear weapons; and a conservationist who became one of the foremost landowners in the United States,” CNN said. “He played a crucial role in reintroducing bison to the American west. He even created the Captain Planet cartoon to educate kids about the environment.”
Turner was married to Fonda, his third wife, from 1991 – 2001, when they divorced.
The two ‘environmentalists’ were a match made in hell – his need for denied maternalism and hers for a misogynistic suitor.
As it turned out all they saw in each other were stars.
Fonda later described her marriage to Turner as challenging due to his infidelity, his chauvinist personality, and her need to stop prioritizing his life over her own authenticity.
Before Fonda married her unfaithful knight in shining liberalism, she became forever known as much for hopping on an enemy tank during the Vietnam War as for any movies she’s made.
