MADISON, Maine โ€” Tenants of a Madison rental property have been displaced following a fire that broke out in an attached garage Friday afternoon, according to the Maine State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office.

The Madison Fire Department responded to 276 Main Street shortly after noon on Friday, May 22, for a reported structure fire.

When crews arrived, firefighters found flames in the attached garage spreading into the walls and eaves of the building. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the blaze before requesting assistance from the State Fire Marshalโ€™s Office to investigate the cause.

Investigators determined that the fire began in the wall area of the garage.

The home is a rental property, and the tenants were displaced as a result of the damage. Investigators also determined that the tenants did not have rentersโ€™ insurance.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation as officials work to confirm whether electrical service was present in the garage.

Authorities said the circumstances surrounding the fire are not considered suspicious at this time.
