The Westbrook Police Department responded to two domestic-violence-related standoffs in two days on Friday and Saturday, resulting in two arrests.

Late Friday morning, police received a report from someone saying she had been the victim of a domestic violence incident in Hamlet.

She explained that she was able to flee the residence and escape to a safe location where she called police.

She further noted that the suspect was armed with a bladed weapon.

Police established probable cause to arrest this suspect and responded with a high number of officers and assistance from the Cumberland Sheriff’s Department due to the involvement of a weapon.

The suspect allegedly refused to surrender initially but was arrested without incident after a brief standoff.

The suspect was identified as a 41-year-old Westbrook man and was charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal threatening, criminal restraint, and violation of a protection order and placed on a probation hold.

Police strangely did not release the name of the suspect.

Early the next morning, police responded to a domestic violence call on Myrtle Street.

Officers arrived to discover a suspect allegedly barricaded in a bathroom with a knife.

The incident sparked an hour-long standoff and drew assistance from Cumberland deputies and the Gorham Police Department.

Officers eventually deployed “less-than-lethal” force to arrest the suspect.

He was charged with domestic violence assault, creating a police standoff, obstructing the report of a crime, and refusing to submit to arrest and was placed on a probation hold.

Police failed to include any identifying information on the suspect.
