Shortly before midnight on Saturday, the Bangor Police Department responded to an Essex Street residence for a report of an assault involving a knife.
Police arrived to discover a victim suffering from critical injuries following a stabbing. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
The investigation led police to identify Abel Perez, 37, of Bangor, as the alleged stabber, but he had reportedly fled the scene by the time officers arrived.
Police also learned that the victim’s vehicle had been stolen. Because the victim was still in the hospital, police filed it as stolen on the victim’s behalf.
At approximately 9:20 a.m. on Monday, the Guilderland, New York, Police Department called Bangor investigators to report that the stolen vehicle had been located and stopped.
Guilderland police arrested Perez, and he has since been extradited to Maine, where he is being held at the Penobscot County Jail.
He faces charges of attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, domestic violence assault, and theft by unauthorized taking.

Perez does not currently appear in Penobscot County Jail records, and it is unclear whether he has been released on bail.
