LEWISTON, Maine – A 16-year-old male is facing multiple charges, including Conspiracy to Commit Murder, after Lewiston Police officers recovered two loaded handguns during an arrest Wednesday morning on Walnut Street.
According to the Lewiston Police Department, officers were conducting an investigation into suspicious activity in the area of Walnut Street at approximately 10:30 a.m. on June 10, 2026, when the juvenile fled from officers on foot.
Police pursued the suspect and quickly apprehended him. During the arrest, officers say a loaded .45 caliber pistol fell from the juvenileโs waistband as officers took him into custody.
After securing the suspect, officers conducted a search and located a second loaded firearm, identified as a .380 caliber pistol.
Authorities said both firearms were loaded at the time they were recovered. No injuries were reported during the incident.
The juvenile was charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, a Class D offense, and Refusing to Submit to Arrest, a Class E offense.
Police also connected the suspect to a separate ongoing investigation being conducted by the Lewiston Police Department. As a result of that investigation, the juvenile was additionally charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder, a Class A offense.
The arrest marks yet another gun-related incident in Lewiston, a city that has continued to struggle with rising concerns over firearms, juvenile violence, and public safety. In recent months, residents and city officials have repeatedly raised alarms about shootings, illegal weapons possession, and repeat juvenile offenders involved in violent incidents throughout the city.
The male was transported to the Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland, where he is currently being held.
The Lewiston Police Department thanked the Androscoggin County District Attorneyโs Office and the Juvenile Community Corrections Officer for their assistance in the case.

Were it not for the existence of Interstate 95, I would not wish to drive through Lewiston, Maine. At 70 MPH in a full sized pick up, with a CC permit, I am willing to chance it in daylight.
