Sikhs Fighting School Knife Bans, Winning Lawsuits Claiming Religious Rights

In Sikhness and in health is the new vow of knife-loving commitment between a northeast school district and its faithful.

But like any vow, there are exceptions.

Students who claim to be members of the Sikh faith are now allowed to carry knives in a growing number of schools nationwide.

Not so much liberty granted if a student is, say, Catholic or a Jew.

As it turns out, Hopkinton, Massachusetts is just the latest town to allow students initiated in Sikh faith to carry “kirpans,” worn as part of their alleged religious identity.

Sikh students and their families sign agreements with the school districts requiring the blades to be no more than three inches long, according to LegalInsurrection.com.

“Participating students must have a ‘record of appropriate school behavior,’ and the knives must remain sheathed and secured during school,” writes Mike LaChance.

The policies forbid students carrying the “religious” knives from drawing them out of their sheaths.

Until two kids get into an argument, then all bets are off, naturally, if either has a knife.

“Civil liberties” organizations such as the ACLU have pushed for the “religious knife” allowances in various schools across the country, claiming the First Amendment provides for them.

The ACLU of San Francisco took area school officials to court ten years ago to allow Sikh kids to carry knives.

The school folks backed down, of course, its being California and all.

The similarly liberal knife policy in Hopkinton comes in the wake of a growing number of Sikhs now migrating to the northeast.

They are reportedly drawn by the “Gurdwara Sahib,” a Sikh place of worship, that recently opened in Westborough.

Sikhism was founded in South Asia six centuries ago to promote the idea of a singular divine and a life of spiritual reflection and selfless service.

It seems as though one of those Sikhs just used one of those blades I believe that killed someone in the UK. Or seriously injured them.
It’s new laws being passed in the UK that are not part of there normal culture but rather a result of being forced to adapt to the invading immigrants culture.

Coming to a neighborhood in your neck of the woods very soon. Your culture is about to be replaced with the new squatters of America.

What a society we have today when we are too accommodating to violence in all its forms. It’s still a weapon and banned off school premises. They’d probably ban my rosary and say it could strangle someone but a knife they have no problem with!

Everyone knows there do not belong in schools, but then we know some bleeding heart judge will get them in anyhow, just a matter of time before there is an incident.
