At approximately 6:20 p.m., the Rockland Police Department stopped Lance Chipman, 39, of Thomaston to conduct a bail check.
Chipman was free on multiple sets of bail conditions related to felony drug trafficking charges, charges of using physical force to resist arrest, and violating conditions of release.
During the bail search, police allegedly located a bag of what they believed to be illegal drugs.
While police were recovering the suspected narcotics, Chipman allegedly grabbed the bag away from officers, and, during the ensuing struggle, swallowed the suspected drugs.
He was then transported to a hospital for treatment for a possible overdose. He was then arrested on charges of violation of conditions of release, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, and falsifying physical evidence.
Chipman was transported to the Knox County Jail.
He was arrested in Rockland last year on drug trafficking charges after allegedly resisting arrest. Chipman was also previously arrested in 2023 on drug charges and was already on bail from prior charges at that time.
