The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office determined on Tuesday that a mysterious fire at a Dennysville church was intentionally set.

The fire took place at the Dennysville Edmunds Congregational Church, at 17 King Street on Monday morning.

Due to a quick response from the Dennysville Fire Department, the blaze was quickly extinguished and caused only exterior damage.

The fire took place while no one was inside the church and sparked an investigation by fire marshals.

They determined that the fire started outside near the rear of the church, and further investigation led them to determine that the fire was intentionally set.

Marshals are now requesting the public’s assistance and asking anyone with information to come forward.

Marshals have not publicly identified a suspect.
