WASHINGTON, D.C. — President Donald Trump on Tuesday issued one of his strongest warnings yet to Iran, declaring that any future attack by the Islamic Republic on vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz will result in direct U.S. military strikes against Iranian infrastructure, including targets near Tehran.
In a statement posted to his Truth Social account, Trump announced a new policy of immediate retaliation.
“From this point forward, any time the Islamic Republic of Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, whether it be by Missile, Rocket, Drone, or any other device or weapon, the United States will bomb and destroy ONE BRIDGE OR POWER PLANT, including those located next to, or in, the Capital City of Tehran.”
The statement marks a significant escalation in U.S. rhetoric toward Iran and establishes what appears to be a clear deterrence policy aimed at protecting one of the world’s most important maritime shipping lanes.
Tensions Continue Following Months of Conflict
Trump’s warning comes after months of escalating military confrontation between the United States, Israel, and Iran. The conflict intensified following Israeli strikes targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure, prompting Iranian missile and drone attacks against Israel.
