Officer Shane Dutill was patrolling the town on Saturday when he stopped a silver Ford Flex after he noticed that the license plates on it belonged to a Subaru Outback.
During the stop, he discovered that the driver, Lorenzo Witham, 66, of Clinton, was allegedly operating without a license.
Further investigation allegedly revealed that both Witham and the passenger, Donna Grover, 58, were subject to active bail conditions.
Additional officers responded to assist with a search of the vehicle, and they allegedly discovered 65.81 grams of methamphetamine.
“There is no telling how many lives were protected because of Officer Dutill’s diligence and the quick teamwork of the Skowhegan officers who assisted,” said the police department.
Both of the vehicle’s occupants were arrested and transported to the Somerset County Jail.
Witham was charged with attaching false plates, operating after habitual offender revocation with one prior, violating conditions of release, and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.
He was issued $5,000 bail and remained incarcerated as of Wednesday morning.

Grover was charged with unlawful possession of methamphetamine, violating conditions of release, and unlawful trafficking in scheduled drugs.
She was also issued $5,000 bail and remained incarcerated as of Wednesday.
