President Donald Trump took to Truth Social on Tuesday evening to urge the Senate to pass a bill that would end daylight saving time and that passed the House last month with a strong bipartisan majority.

“People are sick and tired of having to change their clocks twice a year. It is foolish, inconvenient and, in some cases, very costly. For Cities and States with Watchtowers, and hard to reach places, it costs Millions of Dollars,” said President Trump.
U.S. politicians have long discussed an end to the semi-annual clock changes by codifying either permanent daylight saving time or permanent standard time.
In mid-July, the House passed the Sunshine Protection Act in a 308-117 vote. The bill would make daylight saving time, the time from March through November, permanent.
The bill will now go to the Senate for approval.
Trump attempted to encourage the Senate by ascribing a slew of alleged benefits to permanent daylight saving time.
He claimed that it would increase tourism, retail sales, restaurant sales, family time, reduce energy bills, lower the risk of cardiac issues, reduce car accidents, decrease the robbery and murder rates, and boost the sports industry.
It remains to be seen whether the Senate will heed his request or whether any of those benefits will actually come to fruition.
