Pingree Demands Justice Alito Recuse Himself From Jan 6 Cases Over Upside-Down American Flag

Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree (ME-01) joined dozens of her House Democrat colleagues on a letter calling upon Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito to recuse himself from all cases related to the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol or the 2020 presidential election.

Rep. Pingree, who includes a Ukrainian flag in her handle on social media, has previously called for the “out of touch” Supreme Court to be expanded after they turned down the Biden administration’s student loan forgiveness program and prohibited race-based college admissions last summer.

The letter, which was signed by Congresswoman Pingree and 44 other Democrats, pointed to a New York Times reporting of a photograph of an upside-down American flag flying outside of Justice Alito’s home soon after Jan. 6, 2021.

According to the Democrats, the inverted flag was adopted by “Stop the Steal” activists as a “symbol of protest” against the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Alito told the New York Times that he had “no involvement” in flying the inverted American flag, adding that it was displayed “briefly” and was put up by his wife in protest of a neighbor who posted a sign attacking his wife.

Speaking with Fox News last week, Alito said that the neighbor had posted a sign saying “F**k Trump” near a school bus stop and a sign attacking his wife, and while on a walk with his wife the Alitos got into an argument with the neighbor, who used the word “c**t” — after which his wife flew the inverted flag.

“Even if you had ‘no involvement’ in the display yourself, the fact of such a political statement at your home creates, at minimum, the appearance of improper political bias,” the House Democrats wrote in their Tuesday letter.

“Reasonable people will doubt that you can be impartial in deciding whether Mr. Trump should face criminal prosecution for his actions arising from the “Stop the Steal” movement,” they continued. “Accordingly, this indisputable appearance of a conflict of interest requires that you recuse yourself from these two cases.”

“Reasonable people will doubt that you can be impartial in deciding whether Mr. Trump should face criminal prosecution for his actions arising from the ‘Stop the Steal’ movement,” the Democratic lawmakers added.

Historically, flying the American flag upside-down was used by sailors to signal extreme distress or danger, long before it was used for political protests. In fact, progressives adopted the inverted American flag to protest in 2022 after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

Pingree is endorsed by Communist Party USA every election.
I demand she recuse herself from office because a Communist can’t or won’t uphold the US Constitution or honor the oath of office.

Every statement she makes, and every endorsement proves she is just as big an idiot as the other 3 that represent, not the average Mainer, but the elite out of staters.

The upside down US flag is as old as our Nation, militarily used in times of extreme distress or danger which we’re in as I write. Sin-Greed, I mean Pingree, we Mainers all know, ONLY represents the coastal elite leftists! People from away come up here, buy coastal properties & take over, pushing their
Marxist, homosexual, transexual, pro abortion, pro illegal immigration life styles on the rest of us who are totally disgusted with this mentally deranged mindset. So idiotic! The truth is Maine is deep in distress…Along with the flag, they’ve turned our culture upside down. We must vote them out!!!

pingree is my congress critter. i personally do not care what she might have to say about justice alito. that should be considered for the irrelevance that it is. just a partisan old hag interfering with a different branch of government.

she can be called out for it since she is a gov’t official from a different branch of power.
this is stomping on judicial.

If she thinks the nation isn’t in extreme distress, she is, once again, sadly mistaken.

So this incident which you claim is an example of “improper political bias” is where you decide to draw a line in the sand regarding what you perceive to be grounds for impartially by a Supreme Court justice? Why have you remained silent on the weaponization of the US justice system against certain political opponents? I think it’s clear to all why. You purport to call out the same biases that you engage in as an elected official.

Has anyone noticed that crimes against us the citizens by criminals are taken litely by certain DA and judges but crimes against those in power whether real or imagined are prosecuted to the max, The one’s in power (the ones who rule over us) must have their rule protected at all cost. Self serving actors like Pingree, her Democrat peers and the bureaucrats who now rule will do whatever to remain in power. Voting or not Voting has serious Consequences.

Hey Chellie, where were your comments on students taking down our great flag and replacing with a Palestinian flag on college campuses?
Before GWBush, I tended to go towards the left, that has now all changed. Although my husband has always been Conservative, just because you are married, does not mean you have the same mindset. Things change, as do peoples minds. I am sure, the Justice can be impartial, unlike certain others in power that keep proving they can not be. Man, I hope these hypocritical idiots are voted out of office.
