A homeless man was arrested in Portland on Tuesday for allegedly chasing children through a grocery store parking lot while brandishing a knife, according to a Wednesday press release from the Portland Police Department.

Police say that at approximately 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday, officers were dispatched to the Shaw’s parking lot on Auburn Street due to multiple reports of a male chasing children through the parking lot with a knife.

Upon arrival at the parking lot, police arrested 54-year-old Curtis Crawford, who police say is “unhoused.”

Crawford was charged with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and criminal trespass.

He was booked at the Cumberland County Jail where his bail amount was set at $500.

“We would like to recognize the staff at Shawโ€™s, who during this time, sheltered the children in the store and locked the doors, helping keep them safe while officers were responding to the scene,” Portland Police stated on Wednesday.

I am curious how old the children are that are out after 9pm, without parents? and no I don’t condone someone running around with a knife.
