A catastrophic software error from the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike led to outages in major systems globally, grounding flights, impacting hospitals, bringing down 9-1-1 emergency systems, and disabling banking services.
Rampant speculation swirled on Friday morning when the outages started, suggesting that they were the result of a worldwide cyberattack, but the company’s CEO has since claimed that the outage is the result of an error with a Microsoft update.
“CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted. This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed,” said CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz on X.
The outage affected computers running Windows and using CrowdStrike’s security programs.
The error left numerous airlines inoperable, with American Airlines, United, and Delta all requesting that their flights be grounded.
Hospitals across the country have been disrupted, with Mass General in Boston being forced to cancel all non-urgent surgeries.
Banking systems were also impacted, with the London Stock Exchange going down and many online banking services being interrupted, preventing people from paying for groceries, gas, and other necessities with cards.
Some states, including New Hampshire, experienced outages with their 9-1-1 systems, preventing them from answering emergency calls.
Due to the outage, Bangor was unable to provide many of its municipal services aor accept payments.
The Bangor International Airport was relatively unaffected, reporting only one flight cancellation, while the Portland International Jetport saw numerous cancellations.
Although CrowdStrike has issued a fix, the world is still dealing with the consequences of the outage, and many institutions are working to resume normal operations.
The outage has shown that a single cybersecurity company has the power to cripple operations across the globe with a single error, suggesting that a similar outage could be caused deliberately.
The same company is a staunch supporter of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs and brags about its DEI-based hiring practices.
I believe you will find Crowdstrike is a Subsidiary of Blackrock, and this seems to be convenient to cover the hundreds of millions they moved on that Trump wouldn’t be the Republican candidate just before the assassination attempt. Then this conveniently takes everyone’s eye off the event! Interesting Thought, so who knows what the truth is? Blackrock is evil and ruthless.
