A registrant in the Maine Sex Offender Registry was arrested on Thursday after a juvenile victim and witnesses came forward with allegations against the sex offender for dozens of sexual assaults against a female minor since the spring of 2023, according to the Rumford Police Department.

Rumford Police say they arrested Christopher Lee Sheldon, 39, of Rumford, on two counts of gross sexual assault and one count of failure to comply with registration requirements of the sex offender registry program — both felony-level offenses.

He is being held at the Oxford County Jail without bail, and if convicted, faces up to 30 years in prison on each count of gross sexual assault.

The charges are based on an investigation launched last month after a juvenile victim and witnesses came to police with allegations that Sheldon had been sexually abusing the child regularly for more than a year, police said.

Sheldon is accused of perpetrating dozens of sexual acts against a female child under the age of 12 and 14 since the spring of 2023.

Additional counts against Sheldon are expected once the entire case and evidence are evaluated by the prosecuting attorney.

According to the Maine Sex Offender Registry, Sheldon is a lifetime registrant due to three convictions for sexual abuse of a minor and one conviction for unlawful sexual contact.

Keep doing nothing about it. Smoke your meth and pop your fentanyl. Soon Maine with be filled with blue men with orange beards wearing fruited hats like the one at the olympics opening ceremony. Let in lots and lots of immigrants, whose children have bigger assholes than 50yr old maine women
