Former President Donald Trump’s campaign was forced to refute rumors that the Republican presidential nominee had given up on winning New Hampshire after a leaked email claimed that President Trump would no longer expend resources campaigning in the Granite State.

Emails acquired by The Boston Globe show that former Trump campaign volunteer Tom Mountain told other volunteers that Trump would lose in New Hampshire and begged them to switch their efforts toward Trump’s campaign in Pennsylvania.

“The campaign has determined that New Hampshire is no longer a battleground state,” said Mountain.

Mountain said that Trump will lose in New Hampshire by a wider margin than he lost to President Joe Biden in 2020, and alleged that campaign resources in the state would be suspended.

He previously worked with the Massachusetts GOP and served as a vice chair for Trump’s campaign in Massachusetts before he was removed from the position following his statements about New Hampshire.

“Due to this ridiculous misrepresentation of our ongoing operation in New Hampshire, he will no longer have any involvement going forward,” said Trump campaign advisor Brian Hughes.

Hughes reassured New Hampshire voters that the Trump campaign still very much believes that New Hampshire is in play for the 2024 election and that they will continue committing resources to winning the state’s four electoral votes.

“President Trump’s campaign maintains an on-the-ground presence in New Hampshire, including staff and offices, while Kamala Harris is parachuting in because she knows that the Granite State is in play. We look forward to building on the momentum that we have grown since the primary and sending New Hampshire’s four electoral votes to President Trump’s column on November 5,” said Hughes.

Trump directly expressed his opinion on New Hampshire through a Truth Social post on Tuesday.

“Comrade Kamala Harris sees there are problems for her campaign in New Hampshire because of the fact that they disrespected it in their primary and never showed up,” said Trump, “To my friends in New Hampshire, get out and vote TRUMP. Together, we will make your State and America Strong, Safe, and Prosperous AGAIN!”

The false reports of Trump’s surrender in New Hampshire came shortly before it was revealed that Vice President Kamala Harris would be making her first appearance in the state since 2021.

Harris is set to appear in the Portsmouth, NH area on Wednesday, but details of the appearance remain scant.

New Hampshire is widely considered a swing state, although a Republican presidential candidate has not won the general election there since 2000.

Despite its recent presidential election record, New Hampshire is currently led by a Republican governor.

While President Joe Biden was the Democratic nominee, polling suggested that Trump would be victorious in New Hampshire, but with Vice President Harris as the nominee, he faces a much more difficult race.

According to the 538 average of polls, Harris currently enjoys a 7 percent lead.
