The Auburn Police Department is investigating a shots fired incident involving a group of teenagers that occurred Saturday night in the Main Street area of the city.

Police say that officers responded to the area of Main Street at about 8:30 p.m. on Saturday for a weapons complaint.

It was reported to police that group of teenagers had a firearm and shots had been fired.

At the scene, responding officers found shell casings and damage to a building.

No injuries were reported as a result of the shooting.

The group of teenagers allegedly involved in the shooting fled the area prior to the arrival of the officers, police said.

“Detectives are working to identify suspects and it remains an active investigation,” Auburn Police wrote in a Sunday post to social media.

In neighboring Lewiston, police have been grappling with a surge in youth-involved gun violence and shootings.

Lewiston Police Chief David St. Pierre said in August that the city had seen roughly 30 shootings since the start of the year.
