Maine Dems in Disarray on How to Protest Trump

The Kennebec County Democratic Committee pulled its support from a planned protest outside the State Capitol in Augusta on Wednesday that was held as part of a “50 Protests, 50 States, 1 Day” movement nation-wide because of concerns about “infiltrators,” a county party leader said.

“I am deeply saddened to report that The Kennebec County Dems have pulled their permit for the event tomorrow and are canceling,” a Facebook post by the Knox Maine Democrats announced, adding “They agreed only yesterday and get a permit to legitimize what had been a poorly defined and, some people believe suspect movement.”

That post went on to say that “apparently some ‘bad actors’ had reposted the flyers with an added URL link to a pedophile site.”

By Thursday, Kennebec County Democrats chair Joann Mason’s post appears to have been removed, but other county committees posted warnings about the event like this one:

Regardless, more than 100 progressives rallied outside the statehouse on Wednesday afternoon to give voice to an array of complaints about recent Trump administration policies and the role of Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) chief Elon Musk in reviewing the performance of, and potentially shutting down, some government agencies.

“We’re here and we spun this up very quickly, so if we’re a little disorganized, that’s ok because we’re just the American people and we’re angry that these things are happening,” event organizer Nicholas Jackson said.

Nation-wide, the movement held protests in dozens of state capitals under the ostensibly common goal to “fight fascism” and “defend democracy,” according to media reports.

The decision by local Democrats to distance themselves from the protest sparked frustration among those who turned out, according to media reports. In other parts of the country, Democrat officials have been less reticent about joining the 50-50-1 protests, and earlier this week several members of Congress picketed outside USAID’s shuttered headquarters.

Unrelated to Wednesday’s rally but reflective of the predicament many Democrats face in how to “resist” the Trump administration, Second District U.S. Representative Jared Golden (D) called Musk an “unelected weirdo” in a post on X yesterday. Rep. Golden, whose district voted for Trump, has at the same time been wary of criticizing the president directly in recent weeks.

I’ve been getting a lot of calls over the past few days, and the interesting thing is none of them are about Donald Trump. They’re all about Elon Musk. My constituents, and a majority of this country, put Trump in the White House, not this unelected, weirdo billionaire.

I predict that Maine voters are going to sweep Augusta clean in 2026 and give republicans control of the state . We have had enough of this insanity from these democrats . They are going to get a well earned surprise . They have done enough damage . Wait and see .

The democrat$ are freaking out because they are los$ing their grip on taxpayer$ money and will soon lose their grip on the power and control they imagined they were privileged to enjoy forever.

We the people have ELECTED the Donald to do our bidding and clean up your corruption. Elections have consequences.

My kids and I drove by that cluster fuck by accident, it turned out to be a good teaching moment on how easy the mentality challenged can be manipulated by people who only care about themselves. The 6 year old ask if we could go back in the morning and see how many froze solid overnight. That would be cool wouldn’t it.

The Dumb-o-crats just can’t understand. Even though Elon Musk was not ELECTED, he was SELECTED by the man we elected as President. Not hard to understand if your head isn’t up your poop chute.

So I’m trying to understand, what exactly are they protesting? Illegal immigration being down 93%? Billions saved in outright wasteful spending of taxpayer money? Closing in on a balanced budget? Respect for the integrity of women’s sports? A President being able to speak without a teleprompter? A Vice President not speaking in absolute word salad? Maybe they are protesting Mills’ proposed new taxes on prescriptions, ambulance services, hospital stays, and putting the state budget into a Billion dollar deficit. Yes, that must be it.

And Jared Golden, love how he and AOC have the time to call Elon a “weirdo” but they don’t have time to make sure taxpayer money isn’t being spent on “weirdo” pet projects around the globe instead of on things that would make life better for American families.
