Rockland Police on Monday announced the arrest of an 18-year-old accused of stealing $40,000 from a vehicle in February while out on bail conditions from prior criminal charges.
Police say that Zachary Gilbert, 18, of Rockland, was arrested on Friday, March 7, and was charges with felony theft and violation of conditions of release.
According to police, at the time of his arrest, Gilbert was on five sets of conditions of release from prior criminal charges.
The arrest comes weeks after police began their investigation into the theft of approximately $40,000 from a vehicle in Rockland.
Police said they believed the victim was targeted due to the large amount of unsecured money in the vehicle.
During the course of their investigation, Rockland Police detectives executed search warrants on residences and hotels in Thomaston, Warren and Owls head.
In addition to Gilbert, police say they have charged one juvenile with felony theft and currently have charges pending or warrants for four more juvenile suspects.

Has great potential in democrat politics, already knows how to steal money.
An 18 year old out on bail….looking like he making some great decisions on his future..
Who leaves $40k sitting out in plain view in their car??
No bail this time. He is crying for help!
Kind of curious about why someone keeps 40K in their car? But more importantly Rockland and the surrounding communities are a mess with these bands of punks. The teenagers know there is nothing local PD can do, youth center? then the dems and aclu whine about that. This one must have forgotten he is 18 now.
Put him next door in Thomaston for FIVE YEARS .
See if that smartens him up .
weird the same town with the big sex parlor bust had this happen… the 40k is the real story here…. rockland has had had youth problem for years…
