A Saco man has been charged with felony theft after allegedly stealing an ATM from a business in Westbrook.

“In something you only think you see on TV, an ATM was stolen from a business during the middle of a busy weekday,” Westbrook Police wrote in a post to their Facebook page on Monday.

Westbrook Police say an investigation into the theft by detectives led them to a residence in Saco, where a search resulted in some of the stolen money from the ATM being located, along with the burglar tools that were used to take down the cash machine.

Maxwell Juvet, 38, of Saco, was charged with felony theft and possession of burglar’s tools, a Class E misdemeanor under which it is a crime to possess or make any tool that is used for facilitating the unlawful entry of property or crimes involving the forcible breaking of safes or other containers.

The announcement of the ATM theft came alongside a list of several recent major cases investigated by Westbrook Police detectives.

Other cases announced by Westbrook Police on Monday included:

  • Neil Marletta, a 35-year old male from Kennebunk, charged with felony theft for allegedly stealing brand new tires and rims valued at more than $3,000 from a local dealership;
  • Joseph Wescott, a 40-year old male from Westbrook, charged with theft by deception, theft by unauthorized taking, and misuse of identification, along with operating after habitual offender revocation for allegedly making fraudulent purchases on another resident’s debit card.

“Detectives credit the help of the public and area businesses with providing evidence to help us in solving these cases,” Westbrook Police wrote on Monday. “Thank you to everyone who provided assistance on these cases!”
