Lewiston Police on Friday announced that they are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred near the Masjidu Salaam Mosque, the site of another shooting in March that left one person injured.

According to police, officers responded to 240 Bartlett St. at about 2:20 p.m. on Friday for a report of shots fired.

Police received reports of multiple gunshots in area.

Witnesses told police that two Black male suspects were seen firing shots in the direction of the Masjidu Salaam Mosque.

Police say no injuries were reporting in the shooting, though multiple vehicles in the mosque’s parking lot were struck by gunfire.

Lewiston Police previously responded to the same mosque on March 7 of this year for another shooting that left a 19-year-old with non-life-threatening injuries.

While police identified the victim at that time, they said both the victim and the mosque members who had been attending a Ramadan service at the time of the shooting were not cooperating with investigators.
