The Bangor Police Department arrested a 61-year-old man on Sunday after he allegedly stabbed a McDonald’s employee, leaving the worker hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

At around 6:25 a.m., the Bangor Police Department responded to reports that a male employee working at the McDonald’s at 441 Main St. had been assaulted by someone wielding a knife.

Police arrived to discover the alleged stabber, Paul Bernard, 61, of Bangor, still at the crime scene and took him into custody.

The victim was transported by ambulance for treatment at a local hospital.

The incident left the McDonald’s closed for several hours for a police investigation.

Bernard was reportedly not known to the victim prior to the alleged stabbing, and it is unclear what led to the attack.

Bernard was transported to the Penobscot County Jail, where he faces charges of elevated aggravated assault.
