At approximately 8:03 p.m., the Portland Police responded to reports of a stabbing taking place in Longfellow Square Park.

Upon arriving at the park, police discovered a 66-year-old Freeport man with knife wounds on his face. The man was transported by ambulance to the Maine Medical Center, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Shortly after discovering the victim, the police found the alleged perpetrator, Donald Cousino, 48, homeless, and arrested him.

Cousino was transported to the Cumberland County Jail, where he faces charges of aggravated assault.

The investigation revealed that the two people were not known to each other prior to the stabbing. Witnesses told police that the attack appeared to be unprovoked.
