A Jay man was sentenced to four years in prison on Tuesday after selling drugs to a confidential informant and possessing a firearm as a convicted felon.

Thomas Ray Cook, 44, of Jay, was arrested after he sold $600 worth of cocaine in February from his home to an informant working with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.

The next month, the informant returned to Cook and bought cocaine along with seven firearms for $1,600.

Cook is prohibited from owning firearms following prior felony convictions, including aggravated operating of a motor vehicle after habitual offender revocation and eluding an officer.

He pleaded guilty to the drug and firearm charges in August and will now spend four years in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

The Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms (ATF) assisted in the investigation.
