A year-long investigation by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA) culminated in the arrests of three alleged drug traffickers in Auburn on Monday after investigators discovered significant amounts of illegal drugs while executing a search warrant.

The investigation began on December 1, 2024, after the MDEA received information about a drug trafficking operation. Using community tips and information from local law enforcement, the MDEA identified Auburn as the base of operations for the trafficking ring following an extensive investigation.

Exactly one year after the investigation began, the MDEA applied for and obtaind a search warrant for the apartment of Brianna Renny, 26, at 257 Turner Street in Auburn.

While surveilling the residence prior to executing the warrant, the MDEA spotted and stopped the driver of a vehicle associated with the trafficking operation leaving the apartment.

During the stop, law enforcement allegedly found the driver, William Turner, 57, of New Gloucester, with 179 grams of cocaine and took him into custody on charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled “W” drugs.

He was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail and was issued a $10,000 bail.

The Maine State Police Tactical Team executed the search warrant at around 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Police arrested Renny without incident and took another suspect, Akil Charles, 31, of Brockton, Massachusetts, into custody as he was allegedly attempting to escape out the window.

During the search, law enforcement allegedly discovered 1,244 grams of cocaine, 540 grams of fentanyl, and 53 grams of methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $75,000. They also reportedly found $18,200 in suspected drug proceeds, along with other items indicative of drug trafficking operations.

Charles faces charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled “W” drugs and trafficking in scheduled “W” drugs. He was transported to the Androscoggin County Jail and is being held without bail because he was already out on bail following a prior robbery arrest.

Reny faces charges of aggravated trafficking in scheduled “W” drugs and trafficking in scheduled “W” drugs and is being held at the Androscoggin County Jail on a $10,000 bail.

The Maine State Police, Auburn PD, Lisbon PD, Lewiston PD, and the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department all assisted in the investigation and the execution of the search warrants.
