Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Charleston woman on Monday after she was allegedly found trying to conceal illegal drugs during a bail check following a prior drug arrest.

At approximately 1:45 p.m., Penobscot deputies conducted a routine proactive bail check on Lou Ann Smock, 67, of Charleston, at a Puddle Dock Road residence in Charleston.

During the check, a Sheriff’s Department supervisor reportedly saw Smock attempting to conceal something or destroy evidence.

The supervisor was able to successfully stop Smock from allegedly destroying evidence, and a further investigation reportedly revealed the substance to be methamphetamines.

Deputies arrested Smock and transported her to the Penobscot County Jail, where she faces additional charges of violation of conditions of release and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs.

Smock was previously arrested in August during a drug raid when she was allegedly found with 1,003.8 grams of methamphetamines, 12.9 grams of suspected fentanyl, and six firearms.

At that time, she was charged with two counts of aggravated unlawful trafficking of Schedule W drugs, one a Class A felony and one a Class B felony.
