At approximately 9:53 p.m., officers responded to Maine Street in front of the Fire Department for a welfare check for a woman who had fallen out of her wheelchair.

Officer Alex Helton spoke with the woman along with several witnesses.

Based on the investigation, police determined that Christopher Genge, 45, of Bangor, allegedly caused the woman to fall out of her wheelchair and stole her hat.

Police spotted Genge in the nearby area allegedly wearing the stolen hat.

Officers approached the suspect and informed him that he was under arrest. When they attempted to place him in custody, he allegedly resisted arrest but was subdued when additional officers arrived to assist.

He was charged with assault, theft by unauthorized taking, refusing to submit to arrest or detention, and violating conditions of release.
