Invitation to Maine Democratic Party executive director comes in wake of dust-up over weekend convention press coverage
The host of Maine Wire TV has extended a warm invitation to the executive director of the Maine Democratic Party to appear on the program, despite their political differences.
Tom Shattuck, managing editor of The Maine Wire, said on Monday’s daily show that Devon Murphy-Anderson is more than welcome to come on.
Shattuck also extended the invitation to Graham Platner, Democrat primary candidate for U.S. Senate.
Reporter Jon Fetherston, the only journalist Murphy-Anderson barred from covering the weekend Democrat convention, promised he would be gentle but probative.
“We’re not going to beat them up,” Fetherston told Shattuck during Tuesday’s show.
Fetherston said he would still like an explanation for why he was prevented from attending the convention.
“Really,” he said, “what have they got to hide? All we wanted to do was cover their speeches.”
The video of Murphy-Anderson giving Fetherston the cold shoulder outside the convention hall has gone viral on social media, according to Graham Pollard, The Maine Wire’s digital-media editor.
Pollard suggested that Murphy-Anderson should be thanking The Maine Wire for boosting her Instagram numbers beyond what she could ever have imagined.
A Maine Wire reporter has reached out to the state party to see whether its luminaries will accept Shattuck’s invitation.
Maine Wire TV can be seen 4 p.m. daily.
Despite being hosted by four “old white male dudes,” as described Monday by disgruntled viewer Karen Snyder, the show is open to all points of view, most notably Democrats.
Besides the aforementioned three old-white-male-dude hosts, the show also includes old-white-male-dude and reporter Seamus Othot.
