Boston Cat Survives 10-Story Fall, Soon Back To Bird Hunting

Mazy, as she’s now called, fell from a 10-story apartment building.

She’s now, like, “what’s the big fuss?”

Mazy broke both her legs and is being fixed up in a specialty animal hospital.

Officials at MSPCA-Angell hospital say Mazy is doing great following a successful surgery to fix the damage to her front legs, WBZ Radio reports.

Mazy arrived at Angell Animal Medical Center after her fall from grace.

While her typical-cat ego was merely bruised her physical injuries needed surgical intervention.

An X-ray confirmed that both of Mazy’s front legs were broken and she had a collapsed lung.

While she is being called a fighter, Mazy still has several more weeks of recovery to go.

“We’re one of the only organizations uniquely equipped to provide support for animals like Mazy through our hospital, shelter, and law enforcement programs,” Mike Keiley, who is the agency’s vice president of animal protection.

Keiley said the MSPCA-Angell Law Enforcement team is still investigating the circumstances of the fall.

Cats surviving falls from great distances that would kill a human being continue to defy and perplex mortal comprehension.

Felines survive high falls due to their “righting reflex” and a relatively slow terminal velocity.

By twisting mid-air to land on their feet, using their bodies like a parachute to reduce speed, and utilizing flexible joints to act as shock absorbers, they can disperse the impact of the fall.

Cats possess an innate mechanism in their inner ear and a flexible spine that allows them to quickly twist and orient their bodies so they land on their feet.

As a general rule, cats tend to not jump or fall out of windows over the seventh story, they somehow know that it’s too high to jump if it’s over the seventh story.

This one went out the 10th story window. Gotta wonder if there’s more than the story.

Of course force is equal to mass times acceleration, so a 6 pound cat is going to hit the ground with 1/20th the energy of 120 pound woman or 1/30th the energy of a 200 pound man. It’s not just the animal acting like a parachute, this is how babies can survive falls they would kill an adult.
