The Brewer Police Department arrested a man on Monday after he was allegedly spotted holding a stolen wallet and fled from police.

At approximately 1:30 a.m., a Brewer officer was patrolling when he spotted two people he believed to be suspicious walking down Center Street.

They walked into a parking lot and out of sight, and the officer followed them.

When he pulled his cruiser into the parking lot, he allegedly spotted a man later identified as Dennis Fongeallaz, 41, of Brewer, standing in the open door of a parked car and holding a woman’s wallet.

The officer attempted to speak with Fongeallaz, but he allegedly fled on foot.

The officer pursued him and eventually caught him one street over and took him into custody.

Fongeallaz was transported to the Penobscot County Jail and charged with burglary of a motor vehicle and refusal to submit to arrest.

He was previously arrested in 2024 after allegedly stealing from vehicles.
