The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) is investigating immigration fraud allegations against Somali-born Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) Vice President J.D. Vance announced on Tuesday in response to a Daily Caller reporter’s question.

“I don’t want to prejudge an investigation. You read the things about Ilhan Omar, you know, who she married or whether she didn’t marry this person or that person. It certainly seems like something fishy is there, but everybody’s entitled to equal justice under the laws, so we’re gonna investigate it. We’re gonna take a look at it. If we think that there’s a crime, we’re gonna prosecute that crime, and that’s something the Department of Justice is looking at right now,” said Vice President Vance.

Vance’s statement came in response to a reporter asking whether he expects to see an indictment of Omar. Though he did not reveal how likely he believes an indictment to be, he did reveal that an investigation is ongoing with an eye to potential criminal charges.

The foreign-born Omar has long been among the most controversial figures on the left and has faced allegations of immigration fraud.

Specifically, critics have long alleged that Omar entered into a legal marriage with her brother in order to secure immigration status.

Omar has also faced direct criticism from President Donald Trump for her alleged ties to the massive Somali-immigrant-run fraud operation in Minnesota.

“There is 19 Billion Dollars in Minnesota Somalia Fraud. Fake “Congresswoman” Ilhan Omar, a constant complainer who hates the USA, knows everything there is to know. She should be in jail, or even a worse punishment, sent back to Somalia, considered one of the absolutely worst countries in the World. She could help to MAKE SOMALIA GREAT AGAIN,” said President Trump in a Truth Social post in January.

Omar also faced criticism after the assassination of Charlie Kirk when, one day after his death, she reposted a video on social media claiming that Kirk was a “reprehensible human being” and said in an interview that people should not remember him for the good he did.

Vance did not make clear how long the investigation has been ongoing, and it remains to be seen whether it will lead to any charges.

I bet nothing happens to her. Trump has let everyone that could have been charged, stay free of any criminal responsibility. I’m done believing that he’ll right all these wrongs. I’m very angry that Faucci wasn’t charged or even investigated. Trump keeps lying to my face after I’ve given him 100% of my support. I’m flabbergasted.
