AUGUSTA, Maine – Former Republican gubernatorial candidate and current state senator James Libby has endorsed fellow Republican Jonathan Bush in the race for governor, offering a strong show of support as the GOP primary field continues to take shape.

Libby, who previously sought the governorship himself, said in a statement that his perspective on the race has evolved, pointing to Bush as the candidate best positioned to lead the state forward.

“Once I thought I was the best candidate for Governor. Now I know that there is a man who will give us more,” Libby said. “Jonathan’s circle of contacts circle the globe. He knows that investors who fit our values will come here once Maine commits to a healthier policy environment.”

Libby also acknowledged the broader Republican field, noting that multiple candidates bring strengths to the race, but ultimately singled out Bush.

“Other candidates have some of the key attributes necessary to be our next Governor. I admire them. In the Republican field, the choices are impressive. Yet one candidate stands well above the rest,” he said.

The endorsement was highlighted by the Bush campaign, which praised Libby’s experience and backing.

“Thank you to Jim for his endorsement and support. He is a wealth of knowledge and fire and I’m honored to be joining forces with him,” Bush said.

The endorsement adds to growing momentum for Bush, as candidates continue to compete for support ahead of the Republican primary.
