Cumberland County Jail Inmate Survives After Apparent Suicide Attempt

A Cumberland County Jail Inmate apparently attempted suicide on Wednesday after he was discovered by corrections officers who successfully resuscitated him.

At approximately 10:30 p.m., a corrections officer was making routine security rounds when he allegedly discovered an inmate apparently unresponsive in his cell.

The officer initiated emergency response procedures and requested medical assistance before administering life-saving measures.

Additional jail personnel and medical responders arrived and succeeded in resuscitating the inmate.

He was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The Maine Department of Corrections, Cumberland Sheriff’s Department, and Portland Police Department are investigating the situation.

Law enforcemnt did not name the inmate, or specify how he attempted to committ suicide.
