The Cumberland Sheriff’s Department arrested two teens in Sebago on Tuesday after they allegedly shot through an occupied home’s window before fleeing deputies in a vehicle.
At approximately 4:54 a.m., the Cumberland Sheriff’s Department responded to a report of a vehicle driving recklessly, tearing up a field on private property, and doing donuts on a public way near Folly Road in Sebago.
Deputies responded, and members of the public assisted in identifying the vehicle involved. The public told deputies that the vehicle was occupied by two people.
A deputy located the vehicle, but the driver allegedly fled. The vehicle was located again a short while later, and deputies detained the 16-year-old driver.
The second suspect, a 17-year-old, reportedly jumped out of the moving vehicle in an attempt to flee police. He was later located at the Bridgton Hospital while he was seeking treatment for injuries allegedly sustained while jumping from the vehicle.
Further investigation allegedly revealed that the juveniles were in possession of a 9mm handgun.
They had allegedly used the gun to fire into an occupied home on Kimball Corner Road in Sebago, damaging the building and sending a bullet through a window in its living room.
Deputies are not aware of any connection between the alleged shooters and the residents of the targeted house.
Both juveniles are being held at the Long Creek Youth Detention Center. The 16-year-old faces charges of reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon, aggravated criminal mischief, having a loaded firearm in a motor vehicle and shooting from a motor vehicle, discharge of a firearm near a dwelling or building, and operating a motor vehicle without a license.
The 17-year-old is being held on unrelated charges, and deputies are investigating prior unsolved crimes in the area.
