A disturbing video posted to a local Sanford Facebook page on June 26 appeared to show several young men assaulting an older man near Number One Pond, prompting outrage from residents and calls for witnesses to come forward with additional footage.
The video, which was posted to “Sanford Maine, The Page” on Facebook before being removed within hours, appeared to show the man being held to the ground while multiple individuals kicked, stomped and beat him. The encounter was also filmed by members of the group, according to the original post.

The circumstances leading up to the attack remain unclear. However, commenters on the Facebook post alleged that the same group has been harassing residents around Sanford for some time, including jumping in front of moving vehicles and targeting random people in public areas.
Residents with dash camera footage, Ring doorbell video or other surveillance footage that may show similar incidents are encouraged to contact the Sanford Police Department.
Law enforcement has reportedly been made aware of the video and the names of several individuals allegedly involved. As of the time of the original post, police had not issued a public statement or announced charges.
Several commenters on the Facebook post claimed to recognize individuals seen in the video, and multiple people reportedly confirmed some of those identities. Full names have been turned over to police, according to the post.
The Maine Wire is not publishing the names of those allegedly involved at this time, as police have not publicly confirmed their identities or announced criminal charges connected to the incident.

My first thought was that Maine is now a constitutional carry state.
My second thought was how much trouble he would be in if he defended himself from these thugs.
What people forget is that vigilante groups, be at the ones in the San Francisco before the Civil War, or the Ku Klux Klan in the south after the Civil War, usually initiate in response to situations like this. If for no other reason, that’s why this sort of stuff needs to be stomped on by the authorities.
Dr. Ed, I do not know the circumstances that brought this about, but I have read that the Klan was a force in Maine some sixty or seventy years ago. History has a way of repeating itself, often in unpleasant ways.

That is determined by the police, the DA , the Grand Jury and the attackers lawyers. 99% stacked against you defending yourself. Maine also does not have a Castle Doctrine for your home.
