Two people were arrested Thursday after state and federal law enforcement officers simultaneously raided properties in Harrington and Cherryfield following a month-long investigation into suspected methamphetamine trafficking.

Agents with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency’s Downeast Task Force, assisted by the Maine State Police Tactical Team, executed search warrants on July 30 at 81 Wilson District Road in Harrington and 29 Campbell Hill Road in Cherryfield.

The investigation included controlled purchases of methamphetamine at both properties, according to the MDEA.

Matthew Small, 47, of Hancock, was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated trafficking in Schedule W drugs, specifically methamphetamine, as well as a Class C violation of conditions of release.

Small owns both properties targeted in the raids, authorities said.

Agents searching the locations allegedly discovered a 9mm handgun, approximately $2,400 in suspected drug proceeds, cocaine and other items consistent with drug trafficking.

Small was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Washington County Jail. His trafficking charges were elevated because of a prior drug conviction, according to the MDEA.

He was being held without bail.

Marissa Oullette, 40, of Fort Kent, was also arrested on an outstanding warrant for violating probation.

Oullette was serving a two-year probation term stemming from an August 2025 conviction for unlawful trafficking, authorities said. She was also transported to the Washington County Jail.

The MDEA said additional arrests are expected as the investigation continues.

The Maine State Police Tactical Team, Washington County Sheriff’s Department, U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration and Bureau of Indian Affairs assisted with the operation.

“The MDEA stands committed to working with all federal, state, county, and local law enforcement partners in order to continue to identify and disrupt drug trafficking organizations who are attempting to distribute illicit drugs in the State of Maine,” the agency said.

Booking photographs are available through the Washington County Jail.

Small and Oullette are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
